Science Class Chats

School is back in session which means that my Science Class Chats are ramping up! In August, 2024, I met with a very curious group of 4th graders via Zoom. We learned all about C. elegans (little tiny worms) and how they are used for research. They had great questions!

The goal of these chats is to encourage curiosity about science, demystify science as a career, and empower students with the confidence to think like scientists!

If you’re a K-12 teacher and after-school group leader, I’d love to schedule a chat with your students!

Supporting Women in STEM

As a frequent speaker with Expanding Your Horizons, an organization that supports young women along their path to a STEM career, I presented on careers in genetics and genomics. This year, students worked together to extract DNA from strawberries, an essential technique required to study DNA.

Last year, we discussed DNA sequencing technology and careers in genomics research, including bioinformatics.
